A bet after the flop by a player who did not take the lead in betting before the flop (and when the player that did take the lead in betting before the flop declined to act). Compare with continuation bet prop, proposition player A player who gets paid an hourly rate to start poker games or to help them stay active. 3-betting makes your opponent’s decisions more difficult; Many players start out 3-betting with only premium hands. We’re talking QQ+, maybe JJ and AK if they’re in an ambitious mood. Such a strategy is far too conservative. If you only 3-bet JJ or better, you become easy to play against. In this example by betting $10 your opponent has effectively given you odds of 10:1, when your actual chance of winning is 4:1. You can also use a poker chart as a guide.
